Massage Therapist and Owner, Pushing Boundaries Bodyworks

"My dream client..."
Mari Allday

“My dream client would come in for their first massage, realize I have magic hands, want a doula consultation, and then hire me for doula services. I massage them through their pregnancy, teach them birth prep, attend their birth, and follow up with postpartum support and rituals.”

Mari Allday, Massage Therapist

Mari Allday is the owner of Pushing Boundaries Bodyworks in Tacoma, Washington, a solo practice built around massage therapy and full-spectrum birth doula support. She’s a licensed massage therapist, a certified Spinning Babies® practitioner, and a birth doula who works with clients through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery.

As a one-person practice, Mari has grown her business less by taking on more and more by getting deliberate about what she takes on. She only offers a limited number of membership slots each month, a scarcity that, in her words, makes clients want to jump on an opening “because it is worth the accountability.” It’s a model built around her actual capacity rather than an attempt to be everything to everyone.

Behind the scenes, she leans on automation to protect that capacity. Intake forms go out ahead of appointments so nothing eats into session time. Buffers and blocks protect her schedule, even for the free consultations she also books through the app. Reviews go out automatically after a client’s first visit, tied directly to her Google listing, so staying visible doesn’t take any extra effort on her end.

The result is a practice where a single first massage can turn into something much bigger. Mari describes her ideal client journey as starting with one massage, then a consultation about doula services, then support all the way through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. It’s a model that shows what’s possible in a solo practice: not more volume, but more intention.
